The figure is quite fascinating to me as a kind of moving sculpture. I do my best to capture that movement and expression, and that is what keeps me creating; playing with color and texture in fabric and embellishment is just a bonus. I choose to work in the fantastical realm so I can give the figures that little extra "push" into Odd...
My favorite inspiration is a pun or clever phrase, giving a personality to the figure that speaks to me as I work, and much of the time it seems that I am just a channel for someone/thing to manifest -- I haven't any say in the matter, and some of them would leave marks on the inside of my head if I didn't let them out!
Whilst this all sounds rather serious, it's also important that I have fun in loosing these things on the world; best of all is when one of my pieces makes someone smile...watching a face light up when eye meets eye with one of my Odd Ones is truly wonderful.
Among my creations you'll find treefolk and witches, merfolk and wizards...fugitives from fairy tales; Figments of the imagination, Odd Fae, the slightly-off-center, Autumn Things, the Green Man and Others....all having very little to do with the real world and everything to do with giggles 'n' snickers and Things that go Bump in the Night.
